Vox Launch Limited Edition ‘Black Comet’ AC30 Custom

Introducing the new AC30C2 Black Comet Limited Edition, finished in a stylish “Black Comet” pattern.

The VOX AC30 combo amp has been an icon for decades, with its distinctive diamond grille cloth and basket-weave leatherette. Based on this classic AC30 design, the Custom Series AC30C2 offers numerous up-to-date enhancements, delivering the most versatile AC30 design in VOX history. Now, VOX is pleased to announce the AC30C2 Black Comet Limited Edition. The bold comet pattern projects a refined, stylish atmosphere. Although there have been numerous color variations in the AC30′s long history, pattern variations in the covering are exceedingly unusual, and the AC30C2 Black Comet Limited Edition will undoubtedly become a coveted rarity. Production will be restricted to 350 units world-wide.

An Evolution in Tone
VOX Custom Series amps offer two channels: Normal and Top-Boost. Each channel is equipped with its own Volume control, and the Top Boost channel offers highly interactive Treble and Bass tone controls. This powerful channel pairing provides an abundance of tone-crafting control, letting you dial in a classic sound that is all your own.

Both channels rely on the Tone Cut and Volume controls in the Master section. The Tone Cut control operates in the power stage rather than the preamp stage, allowing an additional degree of tone-shaping. The Master Volume control works in conjunction with the individual volumes of each channel to create just the right degree of gain-staging. By balancing the individual and Master volumes, the Custom Series can deliver everything from a clean VOX “chimey” sound to a powerful overdriven tone.

Sound in Motion
You can sweeten the sound of your Custom Series amplifier using the VOX Classic Tremolo effect. Both the speed and the depth are adjustable, allowing you to generate just the sound you want. A warm Spring Reverb is also included on all Custom Series amps, adding spaciousness to the sound. The AC30C2 also includes an additional tone control in the Reverb section. All Custom Series amps can use the VOX VFS2 footswitch, allowing you to turn the Reverb and Tremolo effects on and off as you continue to play. The AC30C2 also provides an effects loop for incorporating your favourite effects into your sound. True “Bypass” switching takes the entire effect loop out of the circuit.

Power Sharing
The AC30C2 amps make use of 3 x 12AX7 preamp tubes and use 4 x EL84 tubes to deliver 30 watts of power. The AC30C2 uses two 12″ Celestion G12M Greenback speakers. All models in the Custom Series offer a switchable 8/16 ohm output jack for powering an external speaker cabinet when you need to speak with a little more authority; using this jack will mute the internal speakers. Additionally, a 2nd extension speaker jack allows you to run an extra 16 ohm cabinet along with the internal speakers for a fuller sound.

Fender announces Pawn Shop Series Guitars, “Guitars that never were, but should have been”

Fender has announced a brand new range of electric guitars inspired by some of its more leftfield instruments from the mid-1960s to the mid-’70s, and also the more recent Squier Vintage Modified ’51 model. The Pawn Shop Series comprises the Fender ’51, ’72 and Mustang Special and looks set to inspire indie kids everywhere to reach for their wallets.

According to Fender, “These instruments draw inspiration from the eccentric and sometimes wildly innovative Fender creations of the mid-’60s to mid-’70s era that sometimes found their way to the outside world and into the more esoteric pages of Fender history.

“With this adventurous spirit in mind, Pawn Shop Series instruments emerge as all-new Fender guitars with a boldly creative alchemy of diverse Fender components. And while they are brand-new members of the Fender family crafted with thoroughly modern sound and quality, Pawn Shop Series instruments now take the stage with a remarkable new identity as “guitars that never were but should have been.”

“The Pawn Shop Mustang Special is a classic in everything from a venerable Fender model name to its sleek amalgam of design elements and matchless tonal versatility. Its modified offset Mustang body imparts a sleek 1960s vibe, and its 24-inch short-scale maple neck with a ’60s-era C shape is comfortable for those accustomed to vintage-style instruments.

“Other features include a rosewood fretboard with modern 9.5-inch radius and medium jumbo frets, dual Fender Enforcer humbucking pickups with ’70s-style covers, pickup toggle switch, three-way coil selector slide switch for each humbucking pickup (enabling 18 different tonal options), mint green pickguard, ’70s-style hardtail Stratocaster bridge, vintage-style tuners and strap buttons, and deluxe gig bag.”

“The Pawn Shop Fender ’51 melds Fender elements from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s into one truly distinctive-looking, dynamic-sounding guitar. It has a Stratocasterbody and a C-shaped Telecasterneck, with a single-coil Texas Specialneck pickup, Fender Enforcerhumbucking bridge pickup and an early-’50s Precision Bass-style dual-knob chrome control plate.

“Other features include a maple fretboard with modern 9.5-inch radius and medium jumbo frets, master volume control with push-pull coil split function to get single-coil tone from the humbucking bridge pickup, three-position rotary pickup selector knob, ’70s-style hard-tail Stratocaster bridge, vintage-style tuners and strap buttons, and deluxe gig bag.”

“The Pawn Shop Fender ’72 presents an unusual combination of classic Fender design elements, not the least of which is its semi-hollow Stratocaster body with an f-hole. The result is a truly distinctive instrument with a huge sound.

“Other features include a U-shaped Telecaster neck, rosewood fretboard with modern 9.5-inch radius and 6105 frets, Fender Wide Range humbucking neck pickup and Fender Enforcer humbucking bridge pickup, early-’50s Precision Bass-style dual-knob chrome control plate with master volume and centre-detented pickup blend controls, ’70s-style hardtail Stratocaster bridge, ’70s-style Fender ‘F’ tuners, mint green pickguard, bullet truss rod, three-bolt neck attachment and deluxe gig bag.”

All the New Fender Pawn Shop models will be available from Heybrook Music, Please contact us for more details and to place an order.

Orange Unveils NEW Dark Terror Amp

Orange Amps has announced a new addition to its Terror amp range, the Dark Terror.

The 15-Watt head is Orange’s highest gain Terror yet. It’s available at the end of May 2011 with, as the name suggests, a black finish.

Scroll on for the full details from the press release and take a closer look at the Dark Terror here.

“Uncompromisingly brutal”

Menacingly small, easily recognisable, this aggressive little amp comes with a mind blowing sound which combines the shape control of the Thunder series with the weight and size of the monster Terror family.

This Frankenstein like amp has creepy amounts of gain on tap with disturbingly pleasurable responsiveness. It is uncompromisingly brutal, doubtless unhinged, even ferocious!

The Dark Terror is highest gain Terror amp ever and comes with:

  • New High Gain Preamp 3 x ECC83/12AX7
  • Valve Driven FX Loop 1 x ECC81/12AT7
  • Four Stages of Gain
  • 15 Watts Class A, Switchable to 7 Watts
  • Weighs in at only 7kg/15lbs
  • A Gig Bag

The Dark Terror will be available from Heybrook Music at the end of May 2011 . Email us  info@heybrookmusic.co.uk if you would like to reserve one. Hear its distinctive Orange Amp sound and you will feel this mysteriously attractive force pulling you into the shadow of the Dark Terror. It’s everything you want from a Black Orange Amp. Prepare to ride the Dark Terror storm.
